Q: Do you need any previous knowledge or experience in art to participate in a workshop/course? A:No, people with any range of experience is welcomed. Each workshop/course is designed for the individual's need from beginner to advanced. At TALPS ltd Contemporary Art Studio and Gallery, we pride ourselves in our one-on-one teaching approach by our main instructor Aneesha Baldeosingh. She will walk around and ensure you understand the general directions that were given and will guide those who may need/want more guidance.
Q: What is a typical workshop/class session like? A: We strongly believe in giving each student individual attention so that everyone leaves learning something new. Our workshops/classes are held at our building, TALPS Ltd Contemporary Art Studio and Gallery (NEW LOCATION: Preysal, Couva) and upon arriving you can look through our exhibition and help yourself to some light refreshments if you arrive early. Once the session starts, the instructor, Aneesha Baldeosingh will give a general introduction of herself and about the class. She will also go through some guidelines before you start working. Once everyone has an understanding of what the session will be about, you will start working on your piece. Throughout the session, she will ensure you're keeping up with what is happening and will also accept any questions you may have. Music is played softly in the background while you are working. At the end of the session, you will have the opportunity to discuss what you learn, socialize, enjoy some light refreshments, and leave with your piece(s) (you have the option of leaving your piece to dry at the gallery and pick up at your convenience). It's a fun, relaxed, therapeutic, and totally stress free environment. So bring your friends, co-workers, plan a great date night or girls night out, or fly solo and meet some friendly, creative minds. Whatever you choose, you are sure to have a memorable time and go home feeling accomplished, happy, and proud.
Q: How long is a workshop session? A: Each workshop is approximately 2 hours long. Some courses can run up to 3 hours long whereas others may be 1 1/2 hours, depending on the specific needs of each workshop/course.
Q: What is the price range of a workshop? A: Usually $250 for a 2 hour workshop, however the price varies according to the activity.
Q: What is the cost of taking lessons? What would I need to bring? A:We charge $140 for the first hour and $100 for each additional hour. The maximum number of hours one can sign up for is 3 hours. For lessons, the student will need to bring in the materials that they plan on using for the lesson. We will have some back up materials, however the cost is strictly based on the instructor's guidance and teaching, not for the materials.
Q: When are Art Lessons held and how do I reserve a spot? A: We would work with the student's schedule to arrange what day(s) and time(s) works best for the individual and parent(s). These are tailored to be one-on-one mentoring/teaching, however, if you prefer to work in a group, we can also arrange a specific day and time to have a group lesson. Sign up here for lessons.
Q: I would like art lessons but can't come to your location. What are my options? A: We can come to you! Please email or call us directly for further information on scheduling and price rates.
Q: What is advised to wear for a workshop/course/class? A: Wear clothing that you are comfortable in and do not mind getting messy. Keep in mind that some materials that we use during the workshop may stain your clothing. We will have aprons and extra t-shirts available to use if necessary, but it is better to come prepared with the probability of something spilling on your clothing. In the description of the workshop, we will also include any additional information on what to wear.
Q: Are any of your courses certified? A: Yes, our 5-week course during the months of July into August is certified by the Elior Institute. However, this certification does not apply to all courses.
Q: How do I sign up for a workshop/course/special events? A: You can RSVP for upcoming events in the Courses/Events section on this website. For courses in which you need to sign up at least a month in advance, a form will be provided on our shared Google Calender. You may also call us directly if you have any further questions about signing up.
Q: Do I need to sign up in advance? A: Yes. We need to set up the space according to the amount of people attending so we do need advance notice. It usually takes a few minutes to set up each person's space for the workshop, so to avoid taking away from teaching everyone, we strongly advise to let us know at least 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop/class/course if you will be attending.
Q: Is there a cancellation policy? A: Yes. If you have to cancel, please do so AT LEAST 48 hours in advance to make room for others who might be interested.
Q: What time should I arrive? A: It is preferred that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the session. This is to give you time to put on the aprons provided, get settled in, and do any preparations you may need to do before we officially start. We want you to experience the full time you pay for but also cannot be an inconvenience to others who do arrive early so it is greatly appreciated if you arrive on time.
Q: What method of payment do you take? A: Presently we take checks or cash. If you prefer doing a direct deposit, the information will be shared upon booking and stating that as your preference.
